If we call it a "North American Championship" I think that makes it less
interesting for Europeans, South Americans, etc.
Why not call it something like:
"The 2003 Invitational World Computer Chess Challenge" {If it is going to be an
inviational}
Or
"The 2003 World Open Computer Chess Challenge" if it is to be an open.
You don't have to call it the official world championship.
If all the top engines show up, it will be the equivalent of that anyway.
A contest is as good as the competition.
If Ferret and Crafty are missing, I don't think it is really the world
championship. Rather, it's a European championship or something else.
If Shredder and Lambchop are mission, then it isn't a world championship either.
It's some subset, where some of the very best players did not bother to show
up.
A real world championship has all the best competitors present. Call it
whatever you like.
