Never heard of such a ban.

The M-Chess book also liked 1.e4 e5 2.Bc4. It has proven - in it's time (which
is just a few years ago) - that you don't need to play mainstream openings
always (boring), to be successful.

But book isn't everything. M-Chess' engine was competitive in it's time (i.e.,
Micro World Champion 1995).
