You're right that you'll not know how far you have to search, but you do know
that you'll have to search (at most) 10 ply. (Or replace 10 with any other
arbitrary number). If we decide before hand that searching 10 ply can be done
reasonably quickly, then this is a space v time trade off... Since we know the
space 7-man tb's take is huge, trade some time to make them smaller.

Or perhaps you mean when converting to TB play is on the horizon, and you are
not solidly within them yet? Then having a bitbase (right term?) like you
describe would help. I was only considering the need to know how to continue the
line once you were into TB territory. Guess the horizon portion is probably more
important...
