Not very much; it is about 6% on my PowerBook G4.  I did not write the
assembly language functions myself, by the way (unfortunately I don't know
PPC assembly language).  The crafty sources include some PPC assembly language
functions written for some C compiler running in MacOS Classic.  I just took
these functions and changed the syntax to the one used by gcc.
