During the Viet Nam war the draft was in vogue. There came a time when congress
was thinking about lowering the voting age to 18. Almost all of them were
against it. Then on day the government came to a house in San Jose, California
and tried to pick up a young man for advoiding the draft. His mother met them at
the door and made the following statement, "According to the laws of this
country, I am solely responsible for my son until he reaches the age of 21,
therefore I will not let him serve in the military". This made the newspapers
and radio and tv stations out here for several days, then it was blacked out.
Less than 60 days later, congress voted unamiously to lower the voting age to
18. Now you know the rest of the story.
