Nd5! is a good move. now 2. Rb6+?! Kh7! 3. Re6 Rxf2+ 4. Qxf2 Qxe6 is surely good for black, but i'm not sure if it's winning. the only other move for white is: 2. Kg1 and now Qd1+ 3. Kh2 Qe2 is already a draw for black, but why not try for more with 3....h4! 4. gxh4 Qd3 and black is just winning. so what this analysis proves is that after 1. Rb5 black is doing fine. how about other moves? 1. Kg1 Qd1+ is an immediate draw, but i think black has no more this time. with the king on g1, the N-check on e3 is defused which is important in some lines. for example, now the try 1. Kg1 Nd5 is no good because of 2. Ra6+ Kh7 Rd6. with the king on g2, Ne3+ would win for black. 1. Qb6 as suggested by uri is dangerous but looks like a draw: 1... Rd3 2. Qc5 (only move) Qf3+ 3. Kh2 (only move) Nd5! (as always, the key move for black - once the knight joins the hunt for the white king black is doing great!) 4. Be1 (only move) Re3 5. Ra6+ (only move) Nf6 6. Bd2 Qxg3+ with a perpetual. maybe i missed something there :-) black may have other options than this line, white definitely has nothing more to hope for IMO. for example, after 1. Qb6 black could try stepping the king away to h7, where it is a bit more sheltered, and leave white to figure out what to do next... actually, that looks pretty dangerous again for white! aloha martin
