Who will be the first to run this tournament: Fritz 12 vs. Shredder 11 vs. Junior 13 vs. Rebel God Knows What vs. Chess Tiger 20 vs. CM13000? Where does it end? Yeah, I know, most of you on this board would say "Hopefully never!" and that's not necessarily a bad thing unless were finding out that Fritz 14 still can't beat Kramnik. Sometimes though I think it seems we're expecting new versions of the top programs to come out as if we had a right have them. This attitude is further underscored by the fact that if a program stops being further developed that the latest version might be in danger of falling into the dreaded category of "abandonware". I'm thinking of MChess Pro 8.0. It's fine with me if Marty Hirsch doesn't ever want to write MChess Pro 9.0 but MChess Pro 8.0 should still be available to anyone who is willing to pay for a copy of it.
