Hi,
One of Horizon's weaknesses is that she can get her queen into awkward positions
by being over-agressive at times. The third match game at Ridderkerk against
Fortress is a good example. Hori's BQ is encased quite nicely at h3 by around
move 40. Here's a diagram.
[D] 8/p1r4k/5Bn1/2p2p1p/p1Q1bPp1/4P1Pq/1P1R2NP/6K1 w - -
A few moves earlier this could have been avoided at Black's 36th move. I think
perhaps, it makes a good test position. The entire PV must be seen and Black's
earlier play is then justified.
[D] 8/p3r2k/1p4np/P1pr1p2/4bPp1/2B1P1Pq/1P1RR1NP/3Q2K1 b - -
Hori's 36... Rxd2? looses. She misses this combination:
36... Red7!
37. Rxd5 Rxd5
The WQ heads for the 7th rank for an attack on the BK. If instead 38. Qb3 b5! is
similar.
38. Qa4 b5!
A neat deflection sacrifice blocking the path to the 7th rank. Once taken d1 is
left unguarded.
39. Qxb5 Rd1+
40. Ne1 Nh4!
The point.
41. gxh4 Qf3
The BQ is free and White is obliged to counter sacrifice.
42. Qd7+ Rxd7
43. Nxf3 Bxf3
44. Rd2 Rxd2
45. Bxd2
With a draw in an opposite coloured bishop ending.
