Working on a new beta Crafty to enhance the different "levels" of play: (see here for further info: http://www.talkchess.com/forums/1/message.html?243185) In this position [D] r2q1rk1/1ppbbpp1/p1nppn1p/8/2PPPB2/2NB1N2/PP1Q1PPP/R4RK1 w - - 0 1 I was playing very cautious as the weaker levels can still beat you if you're not careful - these games were played at a fast pace and crafty is using the distorted piece values mentioned in the above link )which since that release early this morning has had some additional refinments - which should go out later tonight before I head for a 3 day vacation - away from chess and computers. The best move is probably something like e5 for white. Son of a gun, would'nt you know it, this beta Crafty (in "pawn grabber" mode) played Bxh6!? It's NOT a killer move, but it is sure hard to find the refutation qucikly over the board - I came back to get a winning position and blew it later. But I was very happy to see beta crafty play Bxh6 , although unsound it is typical of many of unsound moves made when weaker players play - that soemtime are hard to refute over the board - especially when you're not a master/expert level player. Also it very hard to dumb down crafty without letting it play totally ridiculous moves - but I'm getting there.
