How sad! The Aegon tournament bit the dust. The Harvard Cup followed suit. Now Morovic wishes to delay indefinitely and reduce the size of the Ferret match to no more than four games. My opinion is that Morovic got a better look at Ferret than he had gotten previously. By shortening the match he could then claim the number of games was too small to be meaningful! Anand does have to be given credit for going through with his match against Rebel. The GMs seem to be trembling in their boots. Bruce is absolutely right in his decision to call off the whole matter if Morovic does not show up this evening. Ferret would have scored at least 2 out of 6. It might have gone 3-3. I am convinced the top six computer programs are now playing at over 2500 when operated at 400 Mhz, and at a time limit of 40 moves in 120 minutes. We need another Harvard Cup matching any six grandmasters in the U.S.A. against the following programs at time limits of 40 in 1 hour. Rebel 10 Nimzo 98 Hiarcs 6 Fritz 5 Genius 5 MChess Pro 7.1 A couple of good alternates would be Chessmaster 5500 and Shredder 2.0. By the way. These six programs would have a plus score against any six GMs in the U.S. at action chess today. Leon
