I was trying to drag a Scid database icon into a PGN database icon on the Database Switcher Window, thereby hopefully converting a Scid database into PGN format. That's how it works in Chessbase. Why not in Scid? But I always got the error message that it can't be done, because the PGN file is "read only". There were no further explanations, therefore I naturally assumed that something was seriously wrong with my file type properties (attributes & associations), software installation(s), op system, or computer. But after reading your comments, it sounds like that may just be normal fare for Scid -- but I'm still not absolutely sure. Please verify that... Thanks! Later, I happened to come across the export operation by "accident" and it does indeed export games from a Scid database into a PGN file. So that is at least a work-around method, although more difficult than a graphic drag & drop method. WP
