There are no clear definitions, but I believe most would agree to this:

clone = part of the source changed, then recompiled.
tweaked engine = source only changed to improve speed, otherwise changes to the
in-program options, mostly setable via initialization file.

This I do not understand. But as long as you both a) give credit to the author
and b) make it obvious that you changed something you should be able to stay out
of trouble. Like "Marias-Crafty-11.7".
