What you need is a "null modem cable".  Do not confuse that with a "Serial modem
cable".  The null modem cable is specifically designed for two serial ports to
communicate bi-directional.  I purchased a null modem cabel 4 years ago for
$2.98 + shipping/handling.  I purchased the auto232 system with the "special
cable" and the two cables are the same.
