On my Windows2000-machine at work I put the line

127.0.0.1 counter.fide.com

in the file C:\WinNT\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and I had no problems since
then.

Basically the computer first checks this file to resolve host names before
asking your local DNS-server. (although I'm almost sure that 100 flags have to
be set accordingly - and don't ask me which ones)

I admit it's not the most elegant solution, but when it comes to spam, counters,
banners and ads, almost anything is acceptable for me. ;)
