With that much green on the line, if I were Kasparov, I would:

0. Study anticomputer chess best practices (like the famous web site).

1. Buy a $10,000 machine to practice against and the latest copy of Junior.
He can use the machine for chess study and analysis anyway and deduct it as a
business expense.

2. Practice for two weeks solid against the program, looking for any weakness
to exploit.

I suspect under that scenario, he would win 6-0.

Let's suppose that Junior really is at level 2700. Unfortunately, Junior cannot
change his spots. If Kasparov can discover any crack in the armor, he will
exploit it over and over. I think that sort of thing can knock off two or three
hundred ELO. And don't forget Kasparov is 100 ELO better than a true 2700
player. He's probably the strongest chess player of all time. IMO, he's
probably stronger than Deep Blue too (but followed bad advice, generally freaked
out, etc.) and so the match he played against Deep Blue was tilted a bit.

I think the match will demonstrate how far computers have to go to be on the
same level as Deep Blue in 97. But we will see. I could be completely wrong
about everything.
