This is just not an ordinary sacfrifice. After PxR, or g7xf6, black's king is badly exposed and in great danger of white's bishops and Queeen attacking on the king side -- after Qh5, etc. The double pawns created by the recapture will greatly weaken black's position to be sure, so that is why I think RxB is the best move to make here....
