Subject: Aristarch 4.4 vs Crafty 18.13 results

I just finished 22 games running Aristarch 4.4 inside the Shredder 6 GUI. This
program shows many problems running in Shredder 6. One in particular is not
playing from setup positions or after starting from setup positions I often get
a "bell" and then when moving a piece it disappears. Usually I see it's whites
turn to play but blacks clock is running. Don't know what causes this. In any
case I ran Crafty in a DOS box using Remi's auto232 system. Both used their own
books. All games ran on 2 AMD 1.4 G Athlons with approximately 128 meg of
memory available for hash etc. Crafty won by 12-10. Six of the games ended
early because of auto232 failure I suppose. They were finished manually with
each side given 10 minutes for the rest of the game. There were no major
changes in the game scores originally reported vs the outcome of the manually
finished games. Aristarch plays interesting chess but I believe Crafty is still
slightly stronger. Of course since they are so close it would take many games
to be sure. I hope the problems with running inside Shredder 6 will be fixed
since it's one of my favorite GUIs.
