I learned my lesson. I have almost every version of Chessmaster since the beginning, starting with their old Commodore 64 versions. But they parted company with me starting with their major redesign of CM7000, and I'm no longer interested. The bugs and patches are important factors, but more important is that I just don't like the design anymore. For that reason, I won't be buying CM9000 nor future versions. If I hear someday, perhaps several years from now, that Chessmaster turned itself around, then I may look at it again. In the meantime, I'm happy with Fritz 7 and the associated Chessbase system. It's not perfect, but it's the best available. WP
