Hi Bob,

the professionals will have an own protocol only for better marketing of his
products, not to do with the topic to make a little bit for computer chess. This
is the main problem.

Topic:
Standards ignore (WinBoard)

If the commercial firms make a good WinBoard support no user have interest on a
second protocol. But the commercial find ways to create WinBoard Adapter,
Converter and other things where are more complicated as the own concepts. So we
have in many products a bad WinBoard support and users have interest on other
protocols with have a better support for commercial GUIs.

1:0 for the professionals ...
with a self-gate result (in German Eigentor, hope the right word)!

For the future not longer important, because we get strong freeware GUIs with a
good engine standard support. Maybe we have in 3 years also 30 Freeware GUIs for
chess engines.

Hard words but the "debug" :-) of computer chess from the last years speak a
clearly language.

ChessBase made no support for UCI in the time where Stefan Meyer Kahlen work for
Millennium for an example.

It's not really important what commercial firms make or not. Maybe for 2-3 years
not at the moment.

For computer chess we must not have a "Dictator" because we have Standards and
Standards are good to get more results.

That's my opinion ...

It's the right answer if we have Freeware GUIs with a good WB and UCI support.
So persons can see what is possible. If we have now 50 UCI engines the
commercial firms created the next protocol and UCI is out (not to do with
computer chess, it's only Marketing) :-)

Best
Frank
