Hi John, the first: Thanks for your very good support here and also in WinBoard forum. >It is almost certainly not going to happen, at least not in the way that you >suggest (CD requirement). There were MANY more people who complained about >requiring the CD than asked how to use The King in other GUIs. > >But there has to be SOME way for us to know that the user is a legitimate owner >of The King engine, and the only way to get The King is to own Chessmaster. >Therefore, the most logical way is to have The King and the GUI communicate and >verify each other, and this is done via the OPK method. > >It is not acceptable (IMO) for a chess engine itself to ask for a CD; that is >the job of the GUI. So putting that kind of protection directly in The King is >not a good idea. I will discuss this with Johan, but I doubt that anything will >be changed for CM9000. Yes I understand your points! It's a main problem that people make copys or other bad things. In the "internet" time where we live can user not longer say ... "please no copy protoctions". Maybe the OPK number is a good idea but not easy if I will play with TheKing under other GUIs. Important for me is, that I can use TheKing with the own opening book under other GUIs. So I hope of this option in Chessmaster 9000. Best Frank
