The problem is probably in your gandalf5.res file
Here is mine;

LEARNING 1
DRAW 6 50
CONTEMPT 0
RESIGN 7 6
TB D:\Tablebases\
BOOKPATH D:\Program Files\ChessBase\Engines\Gandalf5
HASH 104
TBCACHE 8

Naturally you can make it a UCI engine as Manfred suggests and take my word for
it he is an expert !!

Though I haven't used 5.0 for ages as 5.1 came out as a fix to 5.0
