Go up one level in this thread
I agree (and have been guilty myself), and have a suggestion. When you feel the need to put someone's name in the thread title, that suggests to me that it is a personal question that is better answered using email. If I see, for instance, "Question for Robert Hyatt" I wonder why they did not just send a mail? If it is a universally interesting question, why address it to a certain person? Similarly, if I see, "Joe Fooble is a lying sack of excrement!" or something to that effect in slightly kinder words, it tells me that someone had a strong message. But why not just email the original poster and call them a sack of excrement in a private mail? Chances are good it is a misunderstanding anyway. Even if it is not, airing it in public does not look good. If you really need to take the gloves off, and you just have to shout in public, why not go to r.g.c.c, so I can at least cram you into my killfile if I feel like it? ;-)
