I think you are right about that, a book provides variaty for the engine,
gambits and such that it probably wouldn't play by itself.

But does the book make it stronger?
Is there something wrong with the moves that the engine will play without the
book? Does it fall into deep opening traps that can be exploited by the one with
book? Will the book contain all these refutations?

If so, can you give an example?

I'm not a great believer in the value of books, not the autogenerated ones
anyway, perhaps if they were tailor made to the opponent including the
refutations etc. But no amateur has that kind of a book AFAIK.
