What a strange idea... computer chess products usually are for the user (to
99,9%), not just for "official" computer chess competitions alone.

That type of "technical" book/engine restriction you suggest, would mean users
wouldn't have free choice of book/engine combinations anymore. Which is one of
the *main advantages* of that modular concept in professional GUIs, where you
can freely choose (m)any combinations of GUI/engine/book as desired.

You're suggesting a step backwards into chess software neanderthal. :o))

Please don't forget about the end-users (=customers) and *their* demands, these
are *much* more important than developer's competition issues. *They* make
professional computer chess possible, not SSDF nor ICCA.

Fairness of testing by a major result statistics source is a different issue,
but it shouldn't be mixed up with everyday computer chess practise. We all
probably will agree that CCC doesn't reflect "normal" chess live, but I'm even
beginning to doubt, how much of "normal computer chess live" it reflects...
