The games do constitute a base. But it is annotated and there are "tournament"
and "no tournament" moves, which aren't always based on games. Both indicate a
certain degree of tweaking. It is somewhat broad compared to what Fritz would
use at championships, or so I suppose. Nevertheless an improvement.

Agreed. List is a very strong engine, which the results show. Adding a good book
and booklearning, however, is a significant advantage.

The position doesn't have to be superior, just better than what it's capable of
on its own.
