Subject: SCSI with chess programs---tests

I have answered some expensive questions that I had about SCSI and chess
programs.
I purchased a 15000 rpm Seagate SCSI.
I am using the Adaptec SCSI contoller card.
I installed this hard drive in my dual processor workstation.
2x1533mhz amd mp.
Tyan 2460 motherboard.
windows 2000 pro.

no problems with the installation.
everything went smooth.
ran several tests: test positions that do not access egtb,
test positions that do access egtb.

i have run a virety of positions, i cannot find a position that i can see
that this hard drive makes any difference, in depth, kns, node count per post,
or just time to solve. i can see no change whatsoever between these two hard
drives.

If you have any suggestions, something I can check in my system, to see if maybe
i have overlooked something when setting up. Adaptec and Seagate internet sites
are full of info for setup---so i think everything for setup is correct.

also if you have a position that you think comparing these two hard drives will
make a difference in speed---then post and i will run to see if your position
will speedup with 15000 rpm SCSI vs 7200 IDE.

also just some info. when i use my system at the Fritz server, with cable
connection, i have noticed that when one of my programs is playing 1/0,
the move speed is so fast that the clock will not change for three to four moves
sometime, even for egtb access. this is with the 7200 IDE hard drive.
I have not been on fritz server with SCSI. my point is that even though these
hard drives are advertised that they are 2 to 3 times faster than IDE, these
chess programs are not trying to push enough huge data through SCSI to see the
difference in this type of test. it seems to me that to see the difference in
these two hard drives, it will have to be something else other than a chess
program to compare the difference between SCSI and IDE.
