The point is that you do not have to use the knowledge in every node and it is possible for example to use it only in nodes when the remaining depth is at least 4 and there are even times when you can save search time by not analyzing a position that you know that it is a draw. I guess that it is also possible to see relatively fast in most positions that the relevant knowledge is not needed. I believe that the main reason that programmers do not add the knowledge to their program is one of the following: 1)They do not know how to do it. 2)They think that the gain that they can get is relatively small to the time that they need to do it.
