Maybe because there's a better chance of finding bookmoves, good or bad, for the bookless engine, thereby increasing the probability of following a flawed line (and a larger time difference). In fast games the odds of odd moves are higher and a increased likelihood of both engines being out of book early. That's my estimation anyway. Regards, Mogens
