I have been playing out this position between Fritz 7, Tiger 14, Junior 7,
Shredder PB, Yace and Aristarch. 2 games vs each opponent - 40 moves in 60 min -
PIII 800 - 64 Mb hash. So far F7 and Tiger has showed the best and most solid
play. Right now two other programs are trying their luck - CM 8777 and Hiarcs 8.
One of these two has, so far, performed extremly well. Just 4 games left to
complete the tournament.
This has been a very interesting tournament with lots of exciting chess and
crucial decisions in the ending. Like the one below. Shredder PB has lost
two games in a similar way - pawn races - but this one is of a different
quality - trading down to a lost pawn ending.
[D]8/1pp5/p1p2k2/7p/P4P1P/1P3K2/2Pr2R1/8 b - - 0 13
This is CM 8777 - Shredder PB. Black chose 13.-Rxg2?? (13.-Rd1!)
and entered the eternal darkness.
Test: Avoid 13.-Rxg2?? The pawn ending is lost. The whole game below.
