Re '2', I suggest you obtain a copy of: E.V.Nalimov et al: "Space-Efficient Indexing of Endgame Tables for Chess" ICGA Vol 23 No. 3 (Sept., 2000) icca@cs.unimaas.nl is a useful email address. EN has consistently, I think, had the advantage of being able to run with enough RAM to avoid major disc-thrashing. 64-bit addressing has only been required for 6-man endgames without the (x2, x4, x6, x8) reducing advantage of 'like men' on one side and/or the other. Such endgames are not I think accessible by the publicly-available access code. g
