Chess Tiger for Palm plays the right moves even at the lowest level and quickly
mates.

Even for the weak players I think that PocketChess is inadequate. If your
professor is not able to show you how to win in this position, what do you
seriously expect to learn from him?

Have you tried to set up a KBN vs K or KBB vs K position with PocketChess and
see what happens? What do you think a beginner will learn if PocketChess is not
able to show how to mate this kind of endings?
