Subject: CM9000 Swiss Tournament

I've run a couple of Swiss tournaments in CM9000, and I'm not sure I understand
how the pairings work after the first round. I mean I think I know theoretically
how it goes, but not sure how CM9000 has chosen to implement it.

Here are a couple of examples:

The first tournament was a 8-player, 4 round event. Here's the crosstable:

Name 1 2 3 4 Total
1.T.C. W5:1 B2:1 B4:1 W8:1 4.0/4
2.Charles	B6:1 W1:0 B5:1 W4:1 3.0/4
3.Gil B8:1 W4:0 B7:1 W6:1 3.0/4
4.Lacey W7:1 B3:1 W1:0 B2:0 2.0/4
5.Buddy B1:0 W6:1 W2:0 B7:1 2.0/4
6.Jonesie	W2:0 B5:0 B8:1 B3:0 1.0/4
7.Argyle	B4:0 W8:1 W3:0 W5:0 1.0/4
8.Jenna W3:0 B7:0 W6:0 B1:0 0.0/4

In Round 2, I would have thought TC ("highest rating") would be paired with
Lacey (#3 seed), and Charles (#2) vs Lacey (#4) - as you split the contestants
with the same score into two halfs, and pair accordingly. But more surprisingly,
in round 4, why would TC be paired with Jenna (#8 seed, and only contestant with
a 0 score after round 3)? I figured Buddy (#5) vs Jenna (#8), and that leaves
Jonesie & Argyle to battle it out. TC could have been matched with Gil, right?

The second tournament was a 16-player, 4 round event. Here's the crosstable:

Name 1 2 3 4 Total
1.Vlad W10:1 B3:1 W6:1 B7:1 4.0/4
2.Rand W11:1 B7:1 B5:1 B15:1 4.0/4
3.Doc B8:1 W1:0 B9:1 W13:1 3.0/4
4.Roxy B13:1 W5:0 B11:1 B8:1 3.0/4
5.Waldo W12:1 B4:1 W2:0 B16:1 3.0/4
6.Mateo B14:1 W9:1 B1:0 W12:1 3.0/4
7.Dave B15:1 W2:0 B12:1 W1:0 2.0/4
8.Charles	W3:0 B10:1 B14:1 W4:0 2.0/4
9.Tasha W16:1 B6:0 W3:0 B11:1 2.0/4
10.Hayden	B1:0 W8:0 W16:1 B14:1 2.0/4
11.Aaron	B2:0 W15:1 W4:0 W9:0 1.0/4
12.Berry	B5:0 W13:1 W7:0 B6:0 1.0/4
13.Lacey	W4:0 B12:0 W15:1 B3:0 1.0/4
14.Duke W6:0 B16:1 W8:0 W10:0 1.0/4
15.Adam W7:0 B11:0 B13:0 W2:0 0.0/4
16.Seth B9:0 W14:0 B10:0 W5:0 0.0/4

Without even looking at the "ratings", in round 4, shouldn't Vlad & Rand as the
only two players with 3.0/3 scores be paired together? And conversely, Adam &
Seth as the only two winless players (0.0/3) be matched up?

What am I missing from my understanding (or lack thereof) as to how Swiss
pairings work?

Thanks for your help!
Brian
