I'm not sure what applet is trying to be executed here, but you should try
downloading and connecting with an interface(this allows you to play on a
graphic chess board instead of plain text). On
http://www.freechess.org/download/d_mac.html , there is a list of Mac interfaces
that you can get. The two most popular are Fixation and PowerICS. Try
downloading and connecting with one or both of those.
