The argument about pondering vs. non-pondering as being unfair is a sliding scale. You could argue that this also applies to books, tablebases, nullmove or something else. I think you exaggerate the effect of pondering. It wouldn't be surprising IMO if a commercial engine where capable of beating all the best amateurs with that particular handicap. Regards, Mogens
