From a historical perspective, it might be seen as evolutionary. Before the
advent of time controls with chess games, it was absolutely horrid!

I recall reading of one (male) player who actually began crying because his
opponent took so damn long to make each move!

I'd hate to see everything go Blitz, but as another poster noted - it's
impossible to get live coverage when each game lasts for hours.

The players want to be paid fairly - rightly so, and the sponsors want the
coverage - again only fair.

I don't think the faster time controls are as dreadful as I thought they would
be to the quality of the games.
