I definitely don't trust Tomshardware. I did the same testing back when I first
got this system and just retested recently to see if he's changed his ways.
Absolutely not. Look at my findings...

Here is Toms' benchmark that I ran that is in question.
ftp://speedycpu.dyndns.org/pub/misc/q3-tom.gif

Now, it shows Toms' 1900+ with a Geforce4 Ti4600 in Quake3 at 62.7 fps.
I tested at 1900+, 1.6ghz with a Geforce3 and got 61.7. Seems normal, right?
(There won't be a large difference between GF3 & GF4 since this test is mainly
memory and cpu bound)

Well, here are the settings I used:
1x agp, 133fsb, 100mhz memory, CAS3 memory timings, bank interleaving disabled,
(all memory tweaks disabled), agp aperature size on 4mb instead of 256mb, agp
write combining disabled. This is ridiculous that Tom would test with such
settings. I use identical Quake versions, identical demo, Via 4in1 drivers,
video card (detonator) drivers, everything. Beyond a doubt he is Intel biased.
Now, lets try tweaking my 1900+..

4x agp, 133mhz fsb, 133mhz memory, 4-way bank interleave, 8k page blocks, full
ram tweaks, 256mb agp aperature, agp write combining:
Result: 80.1 fps. Look at where that puts the 1900+ on toms' list. Right between
Toms' AthlonXP 3400+(2666MHz/166fsb/166mem supposedly) @ 80.2fps and
the Pentium 4 2.66GHz(133/533) at 80.0fps.

Now, overclocking a little...
1800MHz, 150fsb, 150mhz ram (300DDR), 4x agp and same tweaks as before:
90.2fps! That puts this system between the P4-3108MHz(148/590) and the
P4-3045MHz(145/580).

This is a bit unfair for AMD. I wish it wasn't so easy for Intel to buy people
off but unfortunately it appears that it is. Also the sad fact is that most
sites are this way. Not only that but Sysmark2002 is biased as well. They even
removed the 8 tests the Athlon did well in and replaced it with 1 type of test 8
different times that the P4 does well in. AMD already made this public and Bapco
is catching hell from it because of this. Also a guy that use to work for Tom
Pabst (The guy from vanshardware I believe) wrote an article about why he quit
and whatnot. If you can find it then read it. I'll look for it and post it here
if I can find it. He talks about how Tom was racist against Mexicans and his
greed made life hell for his employees. After reading that, I wasn't surprised
at all..
