Subject: Book or software on opening theory

I know this is a computer chess club but I don't know of any other chess boards
so I was hoping someone here could help me.  I'm a beginner to intermediate
player who is looking to strenghten their opening game skills.  Can anyone
recommend an opening theory book that has lots of text explanation that would be
useful for a low ranked player? thanks very much.
