In my experience, making small optimizations to the indexing scheme which save 1/48th here and 1/64 there result in the data being less compressable to the point where no saving in disk space were gained. My indexing method results in an average 10% of the index space being for illegal or redundant positions, but compresses very well. I guess our goals differ. Since my tablebase collection has roughly 3/4 TB positions in it, I have given up on storing the indices in RAM, except for the tables with less than 5 pieces. I just rely on the OS to cache recently accessed sections of the indices. Angrim ps. primitif should be spelled primitive
