I don't know what he means by "impressions", but I'd guess it has something to do with the number of people who saw or heard of IBM that otherwise wouldn't have. I think in the marketing world it's not how well you play that counts, but how many people hear mention of the company because of the match. And of course for most people who know little about chess, all that matters is that IBM won. David
