I tried it and liked it. Many free chess engines, both Winboard and UCI, that could become as strong as grandmasters in the future run under Arena as freeware. That's wonderful! Arena runs quickly and slick with ease yet very flexible. the Permanent statistics is not as distracting as the Evaluation profile in Fritz7. Arena Help is clear and understandable. Arena is close ideal for serious chess players as well as computer vs. computer lovers. The only disadvantage Arena has is that you cannot nest variations. I hope Mr. Martin Blume, the programmer of Arena, will implement it in the future. Arena opening book is not yet implemented but Martin will make it hopefully in the near future. Fortunately, each chess engine comes with its own book and it works fine under Arena. It seems to me that Martin has learned many mistakes from any older chess application in the past, and now he has developed wonderful freeware Arena as state of the art. I believe that as the commercial software for sale will be shrinking in the future, the Arena application could become the choice for serious chess players. I admire Martin's hard work and experiences in developing Arena that is as close as what many chess players want yet he does not charge any. I appreciate it. Good job. Two thumbs up! :-)) Eran
