For example, there is a check box for "Opponent Moves". I don't know what >this does. "Opponent move" (I guess "DefenderMoves") This option solves problems of the type "black moves and whites mates in n moves" (and conversely). In this case all defending moves for the side to move are generated. All for all this moves the mates for the opponent side are searched. The output are all principal variations sorted by lengths starting with the longest mate (Or with those defending moves which doesn't lead to a mate. In this case the soultion has been proven false.). This setting is equivalent to Chest option '-x'. This option has been implemented for two reasons. Firstly it is not necessary to setup the 'expert' mode for this type of problems. Secondly to enable Fritz users to solve this kind of problems because they can't use the 'expert' mode. >And under EngineMode, there is a dropdown menu with "UCI", "CHEST", >and "EXPERT". A little explanation of these in english would be helpful. This setting defines how the original program Chest and ChestUci are interacting. UCI mode forces Chest to output all moves in "coordinate notation" (I don't know the correct translation). This is according to the UCI standard. Only in this setting all options of ChestUci are usable. Therefore some changes in Chest's source code has been necessary and Chest has to be recompiled. But for this reason the modified Chest is interacting with ChestUci in an optimized way because Chest outputs all moves in an UCI compatible manner. The only disadvantage of this mode the output file of Chest is more complex. But usually this file isn't interesting for the user. Only in this mode the solution moves are executed. And therefore it is possible to play through all variants. The Chest mode is similar to the previous but the moves are outputted in algebraic notation. This is similar to ChestUci Ver. 1.0. The output file is more readable but not all new options of version 2.0 are usable. The solutions are displayed in the analyze window only (in engine output window in Fritz), but the moves are not executed and therefore it is not possible to play against ChestUci directly. This mode is usefull if someone desires a quick overview over all solutions of a problem. The 'expert' mode is necessary for the following configuration field 'ExpertOptions'. In this mode ChestUci neither executes any moves nor outputs something to the GUI. Only the output file of Chest (what means the found solutions) is displayed. In this mode all options of the original Chest are usable. Therefore more detailed information about the solution of a chess problem are to obtain in this mode. The necessary Chest option have to be set in the following input filed. This mode is a simple interface to the original program Chest. HTH Kind regards Volker
