>Hi Ed, >1. Does Rebel10 with large database run fine under 100% MS-DOS when my >computer has 72 MB RAM and 60 MB hash table? Yes. But run Rebel on Win95/98 as then the cdrom is cached and the access goes much faster. >2. Does Rebel10 screen look much better than Rebel9 when running under Win95? Is the screen under Windows different then? I am not aware of this. Anyway there are some screen shots on my web site, section "new features". >3. Does Rebel10 still have any memory conflict with the file called himem.sys >in Windows 95 if a computer has more than 60 MB RAM? Is the conflict with >Rebel10 completely solved now? Rebel10 install will create a normal Windows group with an icon. Use the icon or even better drag the icon to your desktop. Believe me it is much better to run Rebel from Win95/98 then via DOS. I cannot emphasize this enough as Rebel10 is tuned to run best on W95/98. However if you insist on DOS then do it using F8 plus "Safe Mode". You then have some extra speed gain of 5% and can use a slightly bigger hash table. Since ages I never start Rebel in this way myself, it's not worth all the trouble. >4. How many megabytes of hard disk space does Rebel10 occupy? Unknown yet. I guess not more than 3-4 Mb if you leave all the extra stuff on Cdrom. >5. Does Rebel10 automatically read Million Base database or EOC opening trees >from CD-ROM drive only with no problem? Sure. >6. Does Rebel10 read or search Million Base database from CD-ROM drive much >faster than Rebel9 does? If yes, how many times faster? No differences in speed but again be sure your cdrom is cached. Win95/98 automatically does that for you. >7. Does Rebel10 read EOC from CD-ROM drive extremely fast in few >seconds or less? EOC is extremely fast. The whole tree is displayed within 5-7 seconds from a 24 x speed cdrom. From harddisk of course it takes less than a second. - Ed - >I cannot copy Million Base database or EOC to my hard disk, because my hard >disk has limit space. >I am considering about purchasing Rebel10 in the near future, but I need clear >answers from you first. >Thank you, >Eran >Rebel9 End User
