As chess archaeologist I made the following discovery:

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 a6 3.c4 d6 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 Nf6 6.Nc3 e6 7.Be2 Be7 8.Be3 0-0 9.0-0
Qc7 10.f4 Nc6 11.Qd2 Nxd4 12.Qxd4 Nd7 13.Rad1 b6 14.Bg4 Bb7 15.e5 Qc8 16.exd6
Bf6 17.Qd3 Rd8 18.b4 a5 19.b5 Nc5 20.Qd2 Qb8 21.Bxc5 bxc5 22.Ne2 Be7 23.d7 g6
24.Bf3 Ra7 25.b6 Ra6 26.h3 Bxf3 27.Rxf3 Qxb6 28.Rd3 Ra7 29.Nc3 Qc6 30.Nb5 Rb7
31.g3 h5 32.Qg2 Qxg2+ 33.Kxg2 Kf8 34.g4 Bf6 35.g5 Bg7 36.Ra3 Rbxd7 37.Rxd7 Rxd7
38.Rxa5 e5 39.Ra8+ Ke7 40.fxe5 Bxe5 41.Kf3 f5 42.gxf6+ Bxf6 43.Ke4 Rd8 44.Rxd8
Kxd8 45.Kd5 g5 46.Nd6 Kd7 47.Ne4 Be7 48.Ke5 g4 49.hxg4 hxg4 50.Kf4 Ke6 51.a4 g3
52.Kxg3 Ke5 53.Kf3 Kd4 54.a5 Bd8 55.a6 Bb6 56.Nd6 Ba7 1-0

I just don't want to make too much suspense simply because here everybody has
his databases.

It is a game from 1992!

A game against computer.

Who is the computer? Or both?

Black is Smirin.

After I saw this game I knew why Smirin still is such a favorite player in the
actual show events.

Look, in the final position Black is lost, ok, but the Chessmachine Gideon would
never have found Kf4, or what do you think? And Nb5 is only a draw.
But Smirin gave up. Good to know that!

In move 53 Smirin had a draw with Bd8. So far about the incentive for GM in such
games...

Before I saw this game I always thought that only the World title holders played
such games against the machines. It looks as if the machine had to look good no
matter how.

What is the general opinion here about the motivation of GM in such show events
against computers?

BTW I read that Gideon already had 'deep' algorithms to process. Maybe PR was
then already deeply advanced. Ten years ago. Well.

Could someone tell us something more about Chessmachine?
