If Ruffian is really a hoax, then it's unclear to me how this should be done. It's certain that it's not a crafty clone; the results which have been reported here rather indicate an engine of top commercial playing level. If it's not crafty but a hoax, then it has to be a commercial engine wrapped into something. However such engine would need a winboard adapter or a UCI adapter respectively to allow running under winboard or shredder6. However, Ruffian consists of just one executable file. After start, the windows task list grows by one new entry, which is Ruffian.exe. So, no adapter has been started in addition to the engine process. I have also had a look to the winboard debug file; Ruffian seems to behave just as a usual winboard engine. Thanks to Leo Dijksman for these infos; he was so kind to satisfy my suspicious curiosity. Well, it seems that my phantasy is not sufficient to get an idea how this hoax should work. Uli
