I believe that most commercial Programmers
cannot live from chess programming and
the programmers of Junior or Hiarcs have
full time job not in chess programming.

I disagree.

I think that there are correspondence players
that for them only the engine is important and not the
GUI.

I do not know but I suspect that part of them
may stop to develop their programs and start
to do something else like developing programs
for other thinking games(like go).
