Hi Steve,

this is not right.
Only CB native engines have a *.eng file.
2 hand full engines ...

Standard are WB / UCI engines (free engine protocols). Over 160 engins works
fine with the protocols.

Not all commerical GUIs have a good standard protocol implementation.

Used:
- Chessmaster GUI (good WB protocol implementation)
- Chess Assistant (good WB / UCI protocol implementation)
- Shredder (mother of UCI implementation).
- Chess Partner (good UCI implementation, WB also good).
- other GUIs ...

or used Freeware:

- WinBoard (mother of WB implementation).
- Arena (very good UCI, WB implementation).

Look in the WB FAQ by Aaron Tay.

More links to 160 engine programmers, Arena and all important links to WB and
UCI can be found on Arena webpage under:

http://www.playwitharena.com
Arena by Martin Blume (Freeware)

Best
Frank
