It is ok to be "trusting" of everything around you if you want to be. But it is _also_ ok for others to be less trusting, after having seen misbehavior dozens of times in the past 30 years... In the case of the two programs above, you were certain that they were "new" programs and that the authors could be trusted. Until I posted absolute proof here that they were simple copies with a few names changed to protect the guilty. fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on _me_. As the saying goes. I don't intend to be "fooled" again...
