I think it's a good thing that people test this new engine, but there's a little danger here that people are a bit 'blind' when looking for proofs/hints whether it's a Fritz-clone or whatever. If you're _looking_ for positions/parts of games where Ruffian plays similar/thesame as engine X, I'm not surprised at all you will find them. But that's not a very scientific thing to do. A bit more scientific would be to pick random positions from games and test then. I'm sure that when I'm looking hard enough, I also find series of moves of length 10 or more where ChessTiger (the soon-to-be-Linux-engine ;) plays the same moves as Sinan (that is my engine) - although most likely for different reasons. That wouldn't mean a thing though. (other than: it played these 10 moves in this position under this time control at that day and CT did too) Having said that, I'm also sceptic so far. But as far as I can tell, the only thing which really speaks against Ruffian being original work is the fact that.. well.. it doesn't happen every day that a very strong engine appears and most of CCC-readers didn't hear of it before. That surely says something, but it's very well possible that Ruffian _is_ the exception here. Sargon
