Sarah, I have only been using the ERT tool and had therefore not seen these options. I had incorrectly assumed that the default install would set up the provided engines at their full strength. Having had a quick play in CP5 I see the default engine was the Lokasoft one so I selected Gambit Tiger II - unchecked 'Use GUI books' ticked 'Use Engine books' in the list box ct.tbk is shown - however this file is not on my system I have now searched all local harddrives and a file ct.tbk is not present however Gambit Tiger II is playing from a book. Is this perhaps a name rather than a physical file? Are we positive that when I set up an engine in ERT it is using the settings from CP5 and using the GUI books? Oh for those straight forward Winboard engines - their single directory installs and a setttings file you can view and change. In fact my vote is for command line crafty - and I am only half joking. Thanks again sorry to ask more questions Shaun
