The Ruffian homepage is pretty disappointing. I personally wish it had more information on the programming language used, and a history log of changes made. Even the most basic programs out on the web have a log of changes made. It at least gives us an insight as to how progress was made. It would certainly kill any allegations of dubious originality. Also, regarding the theories that it may be a Fritz clone, it would mean that the author actually un-compiled the Fritz dll's (WOW!!), modified it a tad and then recompiled it. Even Bill Gates couldn't do that! Now that the engine is available for download, could a binary comparison against Crafty be done? If there is no similiarity, let us give the author due credit. Considering he started effort in 1998, his programs ascent to the top is very remarkable. A progress log would make interesting reading. I would be more interested in the tests he ran his program through. Did he test it against Crafty or some other engines? Arshad
